World

Aarderra

The Aar

The name of the world.

Its vistas unfold from sun-drenched olive groves and terracotta farmlands to bustling, timber-scaffolded stone harbours with tall-masted galleons.

Terra Calamarea

World of the Magnetic Tide

The vast expanse of civilised land directly governed and taxed by the capital city of Calamarea, encompassing the vast majority of the known world.

Cities

Calamarea

The Magnetic Tide

The sprawling marble heart of the world, its capital, and the literal magnetic north pole of #Aarderra. A sprawling metropolis where sleek gondolas glide through an intricate labyrinth of emerald canals and drift beneath sweeping stone arches.

Under its magnificent stained-glass domes and frescoed walls, the high society gathers to debate philosophy and patronise the grand opera houses, wrapped in a seamless tapestry of lavish magic, discreet clockwork, and the eternal, brilliant glow of a civilisation at its peak.

Towns

Dijendam

A mid-sized, industrious river port town driven by traditional textile mills, towering cloth factories, and shipping docks. Situated many hundreds of tides downtide from #Calamarea and along the River Dijen, it represents the tipping point where high-class mechanics begin encroaching on traditional manual industries. All three families are heavily involved in the economy of the town.

The Dijendam Entrepôts

Grand, fortified commercial docks and trading warehouses lining the River Dijen that handle the town's massive textile shipping. Managed by High Warden Ludovico Sartori of the Eitra of Drapers.

Castle Marblyash

The private local estate of High Warden Ludovico Sartori. The estate serve as the exclusive, invite-only venue for his grand gala and the highly anticipated clockwork automated textile weaving unveiling.

Navigation

Because Calamarea sits at the absolute centre of the world projection and acts as the globe's physical magnetic north pole, traditional cardinal directions exist but operate as concentric, radial paths.

Units

Tide:
The standard unit of radial distance used across Aarderra, roughly the same as one league (3 miles / 5 kilometers). On all official maps and navigational charts, the concentric grid lines correspond directly to this measurement, offering a simple, universal way for travellers to see exactly how many Tides away they are from Calamarea. A standard day's overland march covers exactly 8 Tides (24 miles).

Directions

Uptide (North):
Radial movement or alignment traveling directly inward toward the center of Calamarea. To travel Uptide is to travel North, following the compass needle towards the city.

Downtide (South):
Radial movement or alignment traveling directly outward away from Calamarea. To travel Downtide is to travel South, watching the compass needle point behind you and leaving the city behind.

Destral (West):
Orbital movement tracking clockwise around the circular global axis. To travel Destral is to travel West, keeping the city of Calamarea positioned steadily on your right-hand side.

Sinistral (East):
Orbital movement tracking counter-clockwise around the circular global axis. To travel Sinistral is to travel East, keeping the city of Calamarea positioned steadily on your left-hand side.
